Frequently Asked Questions

Facial Treatment FAQ’s

What can I expect at my facial appointment?

In short, you can expect a skin analysis along with a treatment plan for the current appointment. A facial generally consists of a cleansing, exfoliation, facial massage, mask, and moisturizer/SPF. I will also discuss and recommend a home care regiment for your specific skin care needs.

What should I do to prepare for my facial?

Complete the consultation form and drink plenty of water 24 hours before and after your appointment.

If using a prescription topical medication, please consult with your physician before stopping use. Ingredients such as retinoids, steroids, etc. can cause the skin to become sensitized.

What can I expect at my facial appointment?

You will be asked to undress from the waist up and a sheet will be provided to you. If you rather stay dressed, that is okay.

Remove any makeup prior to your arrival and longer hair can be pulled back/up.

Depending on your service, you may experience dizziness or brain fog afterwards. Please remember to stay hydrated and keep activities to a minimum.

Will the facial hurt, or be uncomfortable?

Most facial treatments should not hurt; however, extractions can be uncomfortable. While some products have active ingredients, you may feel a tingle or warmth, but you should always let me know if you are in pain or uncomfortable during your facial. All products used will be for your skin type. If for some reason you should feel discomfort, please tell me immediately.

How often should I get a facial?

Unless otherwise stated, facials are recommended every 4 weeks.

Eyelash Extensions FAQ’s

What are eyelash extensions?

Your lash extensions are attached to your own individual eyelashes, and will shed as your natural lashes shed. Maintaining your lash extensions will require regular visits to attach new extensions (fill-in) to your own eyelashes as your eyelash growth cycle regenerates new lashes.

With a few simple care instructions you will be on your way to enjoying your luscious long lashes. To increase the longevity of your lashes, it is advised to avoid moisture and touching as much as possible.

What do I do before my lash appointment?

  • Avoid using waterproof mascara 2-3 days before your first appointment.
  • Arrive to your appointment with dry, clean lashes and makeup-free eyes.
  • Remove contact lenses before your appointment.

Can I get them wet?

Do not get your lashes wet for 24-48 hours after the lash extensions are applied. It will affect the efficacy of the glue. After the 48 hours, you should avoid the following:

  • Steam from showers, facials, saunas and swimming pools.
  • Getting moisture around the eye area when washing face, showering etc.
  • Tanning beds for 48 hours after application.
  • Chemical peels, waxing or laser treatments around the eyes.

Additional Information...

  • Avoid using oil-based skincare and makeup products around the eye, including mascara and makeup remover.
  • Avoid waterproof mascara. If you can, it is better not to use any mascara at all. You may find you don’t even need it!
  • Avoid running water over your face. Moisture will break down the bond of the glue.
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes or lashes, especially when washing your face. It is recommended to clean around the eye area with a washcloth or cotton swab (Q-tip).
  • Avoid using an eyelash curler. One of the benefits of lash extensions is the ability to add curl to your lashes. If you would like more curl, please speak to your technician.
  • If you can, sleep on your back to avoid the risk of lashes rubbing against your pillow.
  • Gently brush your lashes with a mascara wand to groom them. The best time to do this is after showering, as they will be softer and less likely to damage.
  • Avoid pulling your lashes, and do not attempt to remove them yourself. If you would like them removed, please contact your technician.

If you experience any pain, redness or irritation, contact your technician immediately.

Hair Removal FAQ’s

What type of wax is used?

There are two types of wax: hard and soft. Hard wax, which is easier on delicate skin, is often used on the face and underarm. Soft wax is used for larger areas such as the back.

How often should I wax?

Waxing reduces hair growth when performed at regular 30-day intervals. Because waxing pulls the hair out by the root, it grows back softer, finer, and thinner. The more you wax, the less hair grows back.

Waxing should not be performed if you have particularly sensitive skin, because it pulls off a couple of layers of skin cells along with the hair. Waxing can cause tenderness and swelling. In addition, some medications will cause the skin to react badly to waxing. Don’t wax if you’re taking Retin-A, Accutane, or any type of acne prescription.

What should I do to prepare for my wax service?

Let the hair grow out to about a half-inch above the skin. If hairs are too short, the wax won’t adhere strongly enough to pull them out. Refrain from taking a shower or bath before the treatment. Soaking the hair will soften it, allowing it to break more easily and making waxing less effective. Do not apply lotion to the skin before your waxing session.

How much does it hurt?

Most people tolerate it well, and get used to the sensation after a few treatments. The level of discomfort you will feel depends on your level of pain tolerance in general, and on which area is being waxed. If you still find waxing very uncomfortable after several treatments, many estheticians offer numbing crèmes that can be applied 45 minutes prior to the service. Clients are also recommended to take two ibuprofen tablets prior to their appointment, to reduce discomfort and decrease inflammation in the post-waxed area.

For women, it is generally best not to schedule waxing services just prior to or during your menstrual cycle, as you are more sensitive to pain at this time and will experience more discomfort.

How do I care for the skin after a waxing treatment?

For the face and underarms use a gentle exfoliant and an anti-breakout lotion. Directly after waxing, avoid direct sunlight and tanning booths, especially while the skin is still red from treatment. For 24 hours after waxing, avoid exercise, hot tubs, and products with harsh chemicals, perfumes, or dyes. Apply a gentle moisturizer 24 hours after treatment.
